Introduction to the North Fork Hunting Lodge |
Welcome to the North Fork Lodge, Part of the XL Ranch !
"Hunt Northwest North Dakota, Where wildlife is the majority, and people are the minority"
The Lodge.....
North Fork Lodge is approximately 50 miles from Canada and 50 miles from Montana.
The Lodge is located five miles north of Tioga, North Dakota, a small farming and ranching
community. Tioga is the Indian name for "Peaceful Valley".
North Fork was built in the early 1980's and is 6000 sq. feet with four guest bedrooms,
a hot tub, and 4500 sq.ft. of deck.
The "Native American" room is 900 sq.ft., including a fireplace, private deck and bath.
The "Trapper" and "Cattle Baron" rooms also have private decks and a large bathroom.
The main floor bedroom is located next to the exercise room and hot tub deck.
The Ranch.....
North Fork is part of the XL Ranch, a working cattle ranch and small grain operation. The ranch headquarters (six miles east of North Fork) is in the scenic White Earth Valley. The Valley has a very colorful history: one mile north of the ranch is Battle Hill, site of a former Indian village and battle between the Souix and Assinaboine Indian tribes.
The White Earth Valley has a quality and beauty that in many ways has remained undamaged over the years. Much of the valley looks the way it did when Lewis and Clark traveled through it in 1805. The White Earth Dam is also located a half mile from the ranch. the White Earth River flows into the Missouri River (Lake Sakakawea) about 20 miles south of North Fork. lake Sakakawea is noted for its excellent walleye fishing.
Hunting Highlights.....
Along with the natural habitat, CRP land has made this an excellent area for sharp tail grouse and pheasent. Approximately 400,000 snow geese travel through this area each year. It is also home of the Giant Canadian. North Fork is located in the "Coteau Region" where 50% of the ducks in the lower 48 states are raised.
